Surgery is usually not a preferred treatment for sleep apnea however depending on the underlying cause of sleep apnea, surgery may in fact be the best choice. Surgery is designed to remove any excess tissue that may be in your nose or throat. This tissue may be vibrating and causing one to snore or causing the upper air passages to become blocked. There are various different surgical options when it comes to treatment of sleep apnea and your doctor can decide which course of action is best for you.

Lastly, treatment for central sleep apnea is a little different. Central sleep apnea will be treated based on the underlying causes. While a CPAP machine can be an effective in the treatment of central sleep apnea the goal would be to fix the underlying issues first.
