If you have been told by your doctor that you suffer from sleep apnea it is time to start thinking about sleep apnea treatments. Sleep apnea is a relatively common sleeping disorder that generally effects people past the age of 50. However sleep apnea can develop in anyone. Sleep apnea if not treated properly can develop into some serious medical conditions. During sleep people who have sleep apnea will go through periods where their breathing stops. This can last for a few seconds to several minutes and depending on the severity of the sleep apnea can occur hundreds of times during the night. People who have sleep apnea will not be able to get a good night’s sleep and due to this many of their daily interactions are affected. Sleep apnea can be treated and finding the right treatment is critical. One of these treatments is that of a sleep apnea mask.

Most people respond well to treatment in the form of a CPAP machine. A CPAP machine is a device that can help to keep the airways open. These machines provide a constant airflow during the night. It is the constant airflow that can help to prevent the breathing from stopping. The air pressure is provided via a sleep apnea mask. Sleep apnea masks can come in a few different styles and it is always wise to try a few to find the one that works best for you. A mask for sleep apnea can take a little while to get used to but in no time at all most people are able to tolerate the sleep apnea masks.

One of the sleep apnea masks is known as a full face mask. This mask often takes the longest amount of time to get used to wearing but also provides the highest level of air pressure. The key in all sleep apnea masks is to find one that is not only comfortable but one that fits you properly. A mask for sleep apnea needs to fit the face snuggly and not allow any air to leak out. Keep in mind that there is a difference between snug and too tight. The sleep apnea masks should not cause pain and there should be a solid seal that is formed when the mask is on.

Masks for sleep apnea are made for both men and women. It is important to make sure that you try on your sleep apnea mask prior to buying it. Make sure that all the straps fit and that the mask is as comfortable as possible. If at first you are feeling a bit claustrophobic due to having to wear a mask when you sleep consider trying on the mask without all the parts attached. Get used to that and then slowly add the straps. The most important thing is that you will need to feel comfortable when wearing the sleep apnea mask.

Some people are just not able to tolerate the full face mask. There are other types of masks that are available and these are more of a nasal prong style. These are the perfect choice for sleep apnea masks for mouth breathers or those who cannot get used to having the pressure of a mask on their face while they sleep.
